Photobooks – the mega trend at Photokina 2008. In line with this trend of business PROMAXX has introduced a new and innovative photobinding system: the Clixx’Pixx StudioAlbums. With this new system, prints from your own minilab are used to produce photobooks to professional standards. The perfect look and high durability are achieved using real photographic paper and high-quality AlbumCovers. With relatively low investment costs of roughly € 400 for the basic equipment, the company is deliberately targeting small and medium-sized companies in the photo sector. Many companies want to offer their customers photobooks AND utilize their own equipment while remaining independent of the large photobook suppliers. The German manufacturer also offers its own software solution, which can be passed on freely to the end user so that he can design and order his photobook from the comfort of his own home.

The Clixx’Pixx StudioAlbum System consists of two small table top devices. Individual lab photos are sealed together to form a double page using the “DoublePageMaker”. The pages then no longer have to be trimmed. Thanks to the alignment guide they are always matched perfectly. The finished stack with the pages of the book is then processed with the “DrillPunch PRO2”, a special hole punch machine.  Following this step, the pages can be inserted in the StudioAlbum cover.

The highlight of the system is a newly developed, open binding ring which is screwed on to the book cover. When the book cover is pushed back, the pages can be simply inserted or removed. This means that the books can be extended at any time. The StudioAlbum covers are available in various formats and materials. The formats are closely matched with the standard minilab paper widths. The manufacturer thus offers sizes of 4x6”, 5x7”, 8x8” and 8x10”. Other formats, such as 8x12” (20x30 cm) will be introduced shortly. The diversity of materials ranges from low-cost plastic right up to luxurious genuine leather covers.  Hardcover versions will also be available soon.  
In order to offer a perfect service, PROMAXX has developed a simple and intuitively useable photobook design software: the “Clixx’Pixx DesignSuite”. This offers not only a large number of design options, but also has an order assistant. Orders are transmitted in encrypted form to the photo shop, either by CD, USB stick or Internet.

In addition to the StudioAlbum formats, the software also supports the calendar formats 10x15, 20x30 and A3. Seven different design templates, each in black and white, make designing a photo calendar child’s play. In line with this, PROMAXX is also offering an innovative idea for the sale of calendars: the Clixx’Pixx ClearBox. The finished calendar pages are simply slid into a special transparent plastic box. The ClearBoxes are available in the three cited formats either as a stand-up table calendar or as a wall calendar.

The company presented the system for the first time at Photokina 2008 and says that it was much surprised by the success of the Clixx’Pixx StudioAlbums program. Due to brisk demand, new book formats and materials will be available in April 2009. PROMAXX will also be presenting the products from the Clixx’Pixx line at the upcoming photo trade fairs.
